The Films:

Vika
[Tsivia Barkai, Israel, 2005, 16’]

After a long stint in boarding school, Vika, 12, returns home for the weekend: A new sister awaits her filthy and crying. Gaining a special mention at the 2006 Berlin Film Festival this poignant story is a true gem from the Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem.

Happiness
[Sophie Barthes, US, 2006, 11’]

What if happiness was for sale? One evening, after work, Iwona buys a box of happiness in a strange discount store and has to decide what to do with it. Fresh from Sundance 2007…

And There in The Dust
[Lara Foot Newton and Gerhard Marx, South Africa, 2004, 8’]

In 2001, South Africa was devastated by the story of a 9 month old baby girl
who died after being raped. This highly accomplished and creative short addresses the issue with great sensitivity.

I Remember Lebanon
[Zeina Aboul Hosn, Lebanon, ,6’]

Zeina records the daily lives of friends and family in Lebanon. Twelve yr old Anas wants to be a filmmaker; Zeid's rock band is ready to tour the world; and Marianne's TV career is just taking off.. but then the bombs begin to fall. What now for the dreams and aspirations of a country left in limbo?

Dreams and Desires: Family Ties
[Joanna Quinn, UK, 10’]

In this raucous comedy, hapless Beryl agrees to video her friend Mandy’s wedding. As “cineaste par excellence” she seizes the opportunity to imitate her filmmaking idols with disastrous & hilarious results.
