Chicago accompanied by Patti Plinko
28th March, Electric Cinema, London, 2pm
Manic chanteuse Patti Plinko takes Chicago and her seductive seductive throaty vocals to the Electric Cinema.
Another of our faves from the festival takes a trip across London to visit the Electric Cinema in West London. BEV specially commisioned Patti Plinko to create live musical accompaniment to the original Chicago. We liked it so much we thought we'd treat you to it again!
Chicago
Director: Frank Urson
Starring: Phyllis Haver, Virginia Bradford, Victor Varconi
USA / 1927 / 118 min
The original tale of seductress Roxie Hart, with live accompaniment from the dark and dreamy Patti Plinko.
Self-centred Roxie Hart (Haver) is adored by her husband, Chicago cigar stand owner, Amos Hart. She’s having an affair with one of his customers, Casely, who, tired of Roxie’s wilely ways, attempts to leave her, triggering a stream of events that lead to Roxie's notoriety. Haver is spectacular as the jazz-loving Roxie, a seductress of the first order; an all male jury never had it so good.
Phyllis Haver
Not satisfied with being merely a Mack Sennett bathing beauty, Haver quickly graduated to meatier roles showing herself to be adept at both comedy and drama.
Patti Plinko
'She sings like a hell cat – all purrs, growls and deranged. A dreamy, dark, bourbon-soaked show - full of fire and attitude' - Time Out
Manic chanteuse Patti Plinko and her Boy have been gaining critical acclaim with their sell out shows around Europe and the UK. Patti’s mesmerizing, seductive throaty vocals flirt amongst a fusion of music and cinematic influences from twisted guitars, violins, beaten pots and whisky bottles to experiments in vinyl and sound.
