Workshops
Birds Eye View hosts a programme of training workshops for emerging women filmmakers at the film festival each year.
These workshops focus on the creative and technical skills in film, where women are most extremely under-represented, and are delivered in partnership with the UK’s leading training providers, including NFTS, The Script Factory, 01zero-one, LFA, Britdoc, BAFTA, Shooting People, Escape Studios, VET and more.
We also host masterclasses and Q&As with leading filmmaking talent. Past international guest directors and writers have included Mary Harron (American Psycho, The Notorious Bettie Page), Laurie Collyer (Sherrybaby), Jennifer Fox (Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman), Martha Fiennes (Onegin, Chromophobia), Hilary Brougher (Stephanie Daley) and most recently Danish Auteur Susanne Bier (After The Wedding, Brothers, Things We Lost In The Fire).
Where possible, we run workshops across the UK as part of our touring programme (BEV UK). Recent examples have included a masterclass with award-winning documentary and fiction director Xialo Guo (She, A Chinese, Once Upon A Time in Proletariat) in Glasgow, a conversation with Catherine Johnson (Mamma Mia) as part of the Cheltenham Screenwriters Festival and a conversation with Annie Griffin (Festival, The Book Club) also in Glasgow.
