Adapted by journalist and broadcaster Rula Jebreal from her novel of the same title, Miral tells the story of an orphaned Palestinian girl growing up in the wake of the first Arab-Israeli war who finds herself drawn into the conflict.

Born in East Jerusalem to a father working in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Jebreal earned acclaim as a broadcaster working in Italy for the 12 years, and recently moved to Cairo to work at the Al-Qahira Wal-Nas television station.

Miral is drected by American artist/filmmaker Julian Schnabel, whose 2007 film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly won awards at Cannes, the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs, as well as receiving four Academy Award nominations.
