First Weekenders Club

Sadly, with the discontinuation of Film Council Diversity Funding, the First Weekenders Club is on hold.

Why First Weekenders?

It is the box office takings on its opening weekend that make a film sink or fly. After all the blood, sweat and tears it takes to get a film made, we understand how much a filmmaker wants to connect with an audience. But we also know how much you, the film-loving audience, want a diverse range of films in our cinemas, not just those with gigantic marketing budgets.

How?

Really, it’s down to us. You and me. Each cinema ticket bought on an opening weekend is a vote of support for the film and its makers. If we show cinemas that we love the films that women are making, then we’ll get to see more of them. Yes, it is that simple.

But life is busy and the choices are many. It’s near impossible to keep track of what’s being released. Fear not! We will help you by providing information about forthcoming releases, and juicy tit-bits to whet your appetite.

And there’s more... We want to put you in touch with films that women are making and connect those filmmakers with you, as early in the process as we can. We’ll soon start giving you behind-the-scenes access to films whilst they’re being made so that, by the time the film reaches the cinema, you won’t be able to resist the excitement of that long-awaited opening weekend.

This is about building a community of women filmmakers and people who support them. It has already proved highly effective, and we hope that with your help it will become an invaluable resource for creative women everywhere.
