Cross Pollination - Film and Media in Digital Advertising: hear from the experts and network over a free glass of wine.
The world is pretty much half men, half women, so why are there hardly any females in the creative department of most digital ad agencies?
This event will look at the incredible possibilities currently available for the moving image in digital advertising. See how your film expertise can be put to good use in advertising and, most importantly, meet the women who could commission you to make their next ad.
Harriet Jordan-Wrench
Unit 10 Productions are an east London based collective of visual artists who specialise in short-form film and video production. Projects include; experimental fashion film, documentary, viral and promotional online video and short films. Harriet is one of 3 ladies working at Unit 10 who put their experiences together when an online marketing specialist recognised the marketable potential of their work in an online context through viral video. The medium suited them as artists as they were able to generate experimental concept driven video in a fast and exciting industry within their means.
Erica Herbert
Erica Herbert is an Anglo-Italian filmmaker and director. By the age of ten she was obsessed with horror movies and knew she wanted to be a director. Later, after finishing school, she studied at the prestigious Centro Sperimentare of Cinematography, based in Rome's legendary Cinecitta studios. She then started her career directing music videos while playing as a rock musician in several bands. Music has always influenced and inspired her, and following its allure later brought her to London to work for MTV. Following a spell in Los Angeles, she returned to London to concentrate on commercials where her edgy, distinctive style attracted different kinds of brands and clients, giving her freedom to express herself. Erica Herbert's trademark dilating, jittery camerawork, can be seen in pieces like her Nine Dragons rum commercial and Breil jewellery 'magpie' shoot. She has worked for brands like D&G, Nike, Sony, Universal Records, Evian, Fabbri editorials and many others. She has learned to be strong in embracing her style over the years, a style which can be a double-edged sword as much of the commercial industry is too scared to be bold or avant-garde with its work.
Cristiana Miranda
Working for Knucklehead, Cristiana has directed short documentaries for Discovery Channel Italy. Cristiana presented the idea of doing a short film about Burlesque stripper Dita Von Teese, they approved it and Knucklehead produced it.
She directed another short documentary for the Discovery Channel about the famous German neo-expressionist painter Rainer Fetting, and has done a series of advertising projects for Johnnie Walker's anti drink & drive campaign with Lewis Hamilton and Mika Hakkinen. She has also shot eight films for the Landrover website and is now working on her second project for Ford.
The film she has just completed for Dido to accompany the release of her track "The Day Before The Day" is her introduction into the world of music videos. It was shot in the small town of Nazare in Portugal, and it's a dreamy documentary of the lives of the local fishermen, their struggles and the beauty of their ability to carry on no matter what.
