Harriet video reports THU 5 MARCH: OPENING NIGHT!

Published on March 7, 2009 | Written By Harriet Fleuriot

Opening Night was a fantastic success, the crowd was buzzing and conversation flowing about the intense, amazing shorts that were screened. We even had a spot of dancing. Thanks all who came down to celebrate with us.

Actresses Sally Hawkins and Hayley Atwell, and our patrons Gurindha Chadha, Steven Woolley and Sarah Radclyffe all turned up and were brilliant and inspiring. Mary Harron fought the jet-lag and popped down for a celebratory drink after arriving from New York for her Masterclass and Retrospective this weekend (her first event is today at 1.30pm!).

Armed with a teeny little camera that looks more like a mobile phone, I set out to capture some of the spirit of the Opening Night (including the dancing, apologies in advance if I embarrass anyone…).

I was angling for a slightly lower-key perspective than the lovely production company filming all the proper professional stuff (called Red Banana, who also co-created our Trailer with Open Book) as I didn’t really have a gameplan, the idea isn’t high concept, and my equipment very minimal…so what you are about to see is very very rough, but I’m not making excuses because this is the point and it’s all aimed to bring you a quick and easy taste of the festival so far. Enjoy!

I am trying to ramble and rove with this camera every day so watch out for more videos during the festival!
