Harriet video reports THU 12 MARCH

Published on March 24, 2009 | Written By Harriet Fleuriot

Thursday there was only one event that was really on my mind…. the BEV/WarpX Last Laugh Comedy Night at the Roxy. Very simply because my short film was showing and there would be lots of very funny women that I admire, or at least was excited about seeing for the first time and was consequently very inspired. Though I was gutted that I wasn’t able to go to Alraune as well, which was apparently very amazing.

A definite favourite for me (and my plus one guest who summed it all up nicely on camera), was Joanna Neary who did a very funny sequence of character performances which  included Bjork complaining about house prices decreasing in the UK. But all the acts were great  - Roisin Conaty was totally charming, satisfyingly oddball/everyday and natural, Jane Bussman read out an extract of her book which was dry, surreal, hilarious and completely made me want to go buy it, Andi Osho was also very funny, relaxing the audience with her experienced confidence then throwing out some topical/political jokes to provoke those comfort zones…. Also loved the other short films, which got a good round of chuckling, giggling and a few shrieks (close-up of a puppet vagina on screen went down a treat).

So here’s a brief video, which doesn’t really sum up much of the above, just prepare yourself for me goofily expressing nerves, and absolutely no comedy content what-so-ever…

The  Last Laugh mini-doc, which was screened at the festival is now on our blog and you can watch here!
