EIFF 2010 16th-27th June

The Edinburgh International Film Festival programme was announced yesterday, and under the directorship of Hannah McGill and her team of programmers, it’s a magnificent year for women filmmakers! Where Cannes tripped up in its relatively weak showcase of work by women, almost half of Edinburgh’s Documentary section and a third of its Rosebud strand of first and second films are by women directors from around the world, which brings a huge amount of optimism for the future of cinema. Lindy Heyman & Leigh Campbell on Kicks at EIFF 09

Kicks is a markedly assured feature debut from Lindy Heymann. An intelligent and witty comment on modern celebrity culture and the darker side of obsession, the story captures the intense chemistry between two friends as well as the vulnerability and yearning of adolescent emotions. Screenwriter Leigh Campbell and director Lindy Heyman talked to us at Edinburgh International Film Festival last year when the film premiered.  The trailer is included in the interview so check it out and go and see it this weekend – out Friday!
