The excitement mounts as the 54th BFI London Film Festival kicks off today, and on an even better note this year’s festival is proudly presenting more films by women than most other festivals around (excluding ours of course!).

Debs Gardner-Paterson’s Africa United and Lisa Cholodenko’s The Kids Are All Right are the two directed by women in the Gala section and are tipped to go far. Unfortunately, due to there understandable hype and popularity they are both sold out, so you’ll just have to wait that little bit longer till they’re out at the cinema. Other ones to watch include – Isabelle Stever’s Blessed Events, , Brightwide presents Christy Turlington Burns’ No Woman No Cry, Catherine Breillat’s Sleeping Beauty and Ananth Mahadevan’s I Am Sindhutai Sapkal. There will also be an exciting opportunity to hear from Lisa Cholodenko as she hosts a masterclass.

This year, Birds Eye View are offering two lucky Nest members the chance to win a ticket to Kim Longinotto’s Pink Saris, on Wednesday 20th October, 9pm at NFT1.  Become a member before Monday 18th to be in with a chance of winning.
