Happy New Year to the BEV family and supporters! We hope this finds you well-fed, well-rested and well-entertained over the hols, and with a spring in your step for 2012.
We have hot-off-the-press BEV news for you, read on friends!
BEV has programmed a magnificent Sound and Silents event for the South Bank Centre’s Women of the World (WOW) festival in March:
On Fri 9 March we’ll be presenting Mary Pickford Revived, an evening of new musical accompaniment to three Mary Pickford silent films. You probably know that cross-genre genius actress and filmmaker Pickford was Hollywood’s first major female star, the first actress not only to produce her own work but also have complete control of advertising, choice of directors and final cut. Not just ‘America’s Sweetheart’ but also its leading film businesswoman of the time, she starred in over 240 films, and in 1919 co-founded leading production company United Artists with D.W. Griffith, Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks.
Birds Eye View are celebrating Mary Pickford this year with a series of Sound and Silents commissions, three of which feature in our WOW event at Southbank Centre on March 9th. BOOK NOW to see Welsh/Iranian experimental folk singer Roshi perform to Pickford favourite Amarilly of Clothes-Line Alley, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Tanya Auclair bring her Canadian/Rwandan/ British beautiful, stark music to melodrama The Female of the Species, and leading contemporary composer Anna Meredith explore comedy The New York Hat with her acoustic and electronic sounds.
Nest Members have already heard about their special discount ticket price for Mary Pickford Revived. Book your tickets here – we hope you enjoy it!
