THE BREADWINNER – International Day of Peace

Various / Nora Twomey

THE BREADWINNER

Directed by Nora Twomey and written by Anita Doron & Deborah Ellis

We felt compelled to mark International Day of Peace given the events that have unfolded over the past month in Afghanistan.

On the day, we’re working with partner cinemas across the UK for a special presentation of the Oscar nominated

THE BREADWINNER:

The Breadwinner tells the story of Parvana, an 11-year-old girl growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. When her father is wrongfully arrested, Parvana disguises herself as a boy in order to support her family. With dauntless perseverance, Parvana draws strength from the stories her father told her, and ultimately risks her life to discover if he is still alive. Equal parts thrilling and enchanting, The Breadwinner is a timely and inspiring tale about the transcendent power of stories, and their potential to unite and heal us all.

All proceeds from the screenings will be donated to the Afghanistan & Central Asian Association (ACAA) who are supporting those newly arrived in the UK, you can find out more about their current appeal here.

ACAA work with Afghans and Central Asians living away from their homeland, providing them with support, skills and knowledge to live and prosper in the UK.

Some cinema partners will be donating proceeds from select screenings on 21 September to ACAA in lieu of showing the film.

For one day only on Tuesday 21 September
